Located at booth 7147, Riverside Research experts are demonstrating iMMERSE, an independent research & development (IR&D) project that integrates the Oculus DK2 headset with an existing 3-D analysis environment—AGI’s Systems Tool Kit. Riverside Research adapted its aircraft mission planning software for the U-2 SYERS 2B and 2C to allow customers to “ride-along” during a mission.

“Virtual reality is moving forward in the commercial sector, most notably in the gaming community,” said John Ploschnitznig, director of Riverside Research’s Modeling and Application Development Lab. “We’re exploring how this experience-based technology can be leveraged to interact with geospatial data and ultimately benefit the analyst

With sights set on the future, Riverside Research plans to implement Tactile Interaction capabilities in the next phase of iMMERSE, redefining conventional keyboards, mice, monitors, and menu bars to become part of the virtual world.

“We believe iMMERSE can be an effective training solution for intelligence analysts, military operators, soldiers, pilots, and the special operations community,” said Ploschnitznig. “We’re always working on new technologies that can have a large impact on the community.”
