Plasma Expertise

Plasma research has been an integral part of our cutting-edge technology since our founding in 1967.

Plasma Lab Capabilities

Our plasma lab, located in Beavercreek, Ohio, provides the resources required to perform experiments in a controlled laboratory environment and is focused on these key research areas:

  • Extreme environment testing
  • Hypersonic plasma-material interactions
  • Transmission through hypersonic plasmas
  • Scaled ionospheric research
  • Plasma instabilities
  • Electric propulsion
  • Plasma diagnostic development

Hypersonic Plasma Interaction Research (HyPIR) Testbed

Our plasma lab is home to the HyPIR Testbed, a national test facility advancing and accelerating hypersonic material development through cutting-edge diagnostics, experimentation and innovation. Our experts use our plasma chambers to design, test, and prove the efficacy of new and existing materials under hypersonic strain.

Plasma Lab Overview

With over 3,000 sq. ft. of lab space, three environmental vacuum chambers, each with the ability to precisely control test conditions such as gas composition, pressure and temperature, and a full suite of diagnostics, our plasma lab drives innovation in plasma R&D to support next-generation defense technologies.

Our Plasma Lab is open to strategic partnerships with industry and government agencies, offering access to cutting-edge facilities and expert collaboration to accelerate mission-critical R&D. We’re here to help you move faster, smarter, and further.
