Riverside Research Improves Processes through CMMI Initiative

Riverside Research began implementing the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) process improvement approach in 2011 as a strategic initiative under the company’s Independent Research and Development (IR&D) program. CMMI models are internationally recognized collections of best practices that help guide process improvement across a project, a division, or the entire organization by providing a common, integrated vision for improvement in three areas: development, acquisition, and services. Riverside Research is currently preparing to achieve accreditation for CMMI Maturity Level 3 for software development by the end of 2013.

Standardized software development policies and processes that follow the CMMI model have been developed and are currently being implemented for a select group of software projects, including the Radar Assessment and Development Laboratory’s PHAROS and RADSim IR&D projects. The improvements garnered through standardized, CMMI-appraised processes represent a significant advantage for Riverside Research; improved processes greatly increase the accuracy of program metrics, reduce program risk, and translate to higher quality software products and services.
